Both gel and acrylic nails offer beautiful results, but they suit different lifestyles and nail needs. Here's a complete comparison to help you decide.
One of the most common questions we get at our nail station is: "What's the difference between gel and acrylic nails?" Here's everything you need to know.
Gel Nails
Gel nails are applied in layers and cured under a UV or LED lamp. They have a more natural-looking finish and flex slightly with your nail.
Pros:- More natural look and feel
- Less odour during application
- Flexible — less likely to crack
- Easier to remove (soak-off gels)
- Great for overlays on natural nails
- Less durable than acrylics for very long lengths
- Can be more expensive
- Requires UV/LED lamp for curing
Acrylic Nails
Acrylics are made by mixing a liquid monomer with a powder polymer, creating a hard protective layer over your natural nail.
Pros:- Extremely durable — ideal for long lengths
- Usually more affordable
- Easy to repair if one breaks
- Great for nail biters — helps break the habit
- Stronger chemical smell during application
- Can damage natural nails if removed incorrectly
- Less flexible — more prone to popping off under pressure
Which Should You Choose?
- Choose gel if you want a natural look, shorter to medium length, or you prefer a lower-maintenance option.
- Choose acrylic if you want extra-long nails, need maximum durability, or are on a tighter budget.
